FAQs

We hope this section covers most questions that you might have but if there's anything else you would like to know, please use our Contact page or telephone our office on 01262 673346.

  • Can I pay by Direct Debit?

Commercial customers can use Direct Debit to pay each invoice in full on the day it falls due, or alternatively specify a date each month on which we collect payment for all of the previous month's invoices.

If you would like to know more, or you simply wish to request the forms to set up a Direct Debit, please use our Contact page to get in touch.

  • Do you deliver on Saturdays?

Due to drivers' hours, staffing levels and other factors we do not routinely offer Saturday as a delivery option. However, we know that sometimes our customers need us on a Saturday (e.g. Saturday is the only day you can accept delivery, you've run out of oil or you look likely to before the weekend is over, especially if you're a farmer harvesting) then give us a call on 01262 673346 and we'll see if we can arrange anything to help you.

We are also sometimes able to schedule Saturday deliveries in winter or during other times of peak demand so again please give us a call if you need us.

Our office is open most Saturdays from 08:30 to 12:00.

  • Do you have a small tanker?

    Yes.

We operate a brand new DAF small tanker which can access pretty much anywhere that a 'baby tanker' can go (weight limits permitting) but as it carries slightly more fuel than a 7.5 tonner it should alllow us better flexibility and therefore the ability to deliver to more customers on each run.

We also operate a number of other quite small tankers (which are in between the size of a 7.5 tonne baby tanker and a regular two axle tanker) for deliveries that don't need the very smallest, but still need a smaller than average sized tanker .

If you want to discuss your individual requirements please feel free to telephone our office on 01262 673346 or send a message via the Contact page and we can try to ascertain which tanker size might be the most suitable.

If you are ordering a delivery and you require our smaller tankers please remember to select that option when placing your order (and please also be aware that there may be an increase in delivery lead time and/or cost where a small tanker is required).

It is vitally important that you tell us if you need a smaller-than-standard tanker as we may not be able to complete the delivery on the day we've said if a standard tanker cannot gain safe access.

  • Do you service, repair, or install boilers?

    Our parent company does.

Hall Bros (Bridlington) Limited - the company that we are owned by - has many years of experience in this field and a number of skilled, OFTEC registered technicians working for therm.

If you would like to arrange the repair, service, or installation of an oil-fired boiler please call 01262 605500 or alternatively send a message via our Contact page (if you need to speak to someone urgently, it may be best to telephone as their calls often divert to a mobile outside of office hours).

  • Do you sell oil tanks?

    Our parent company does.

Hall Bros (Bridlington) Limited - the company that we are owned by - has many years of experience in this field and a close relationship with tank manufacturer Envirostore. They also employ a number of skilled, OFTEC registered technicians who can install oil tanks safely and compliantly, even arranging for the transfer of usable fuel from the old tank to the new one.

If you would like to find out more, please call 01262 605500 or alternatively send a message via our Contact page (if you need to speak to someone urgently, it may be best to telephone as their calls often divert to a mobile outside of office hours).

  • What's the telephone number for your York branch?

We do have a York telephone number but every order, delivery, payment, account, etc is handled by our head office near Bridlington (the York telephone number just diverts to there).

So, if you need to contact us you can telephone either 01904 608554 or 01262 673346 but both numbers will connect to the head office near Bridlington.

  • What are your hours of opening?

    In a word... long!

As anyone who's run or worked for a family business will know, set hours of opening can be easier said than done (thankfully for our customers we mean that in the sense that we're here a lot, rather than meaning we're only open when we can be bothered!)

Typically, the phones will be answered between 08:00 and 18:00 Monday to Friday and 08:30 to 12:00 on most Saturdays.

We can't promise to be here, but it might also be worth phoning outside of these hours as we are sometimes here as late as 22:00 and as early 06:30 (we even pop in briefly most Sundays to do a bit of cleaning or catch up on some paperwork). The office should be closed on most Bank Holidays (but again, unless it's Christmas Day, we might be here so give us a try if you want to).

Alternatively, just send us an email anytime via our Contact page and we should get it next time the office is open.

  • Do you sell tank gauges?

    Our parent company does.

Hall Bros (Bridlington) Limited - the company that we are owned by - has many years experience in this field and can hapily recommend a gauge to meet your requirements.

Because they also employ a number of skilled, OFTEC registered technicians, they can arrange installation too.

If you would like to find out more, please call 01262 605500 or alternatively send a message via our Contact page (if you need to speak to someone urgently, it may be best to telephone as their calls often divert to a mobile outside of office hours).

  • Do you have a 'top up' service?

Our Top Up service is currently closed to new applications.

  • Are you independent?

    We are family-owned and family-run.

We are wholly owned by Hall Bros (Bridlington) Limited which is a family-owned, family-run business that has been trading in East Yorkshire for over 60 years. We started out as the fuel department, but we became a separate company around 2005 for administrative purposes - the two companies still share premises, personnel, and the occasional witty tale over a cup of coffee.

We are an authorised distributor for Jet which basically means that Jet (Phillips66) are our preferred supplier of fuels - we display their brand on our trucks but we are not owned by them.

We are not part of GB Oils or Certas.

  • Do you do crane hire?

That'll be our parent company, Hall Bros (Bridlington) Limited.

You can find them at www.hallbros.co.uk

  • Do you supply gas?

    No.

We haven't ever sold LPG by tanker.

We used to sell bottled gas but ceased to do so around 10 years ago.

  • Do you uplift (pump out) fuel?

None of our tankers are equipped for uplift/pump out. However, depending on what it is you wish to do and/or where you intend to move the oil, our parent company Hall Bros (Bridlington) Limited may be able to help. They have pumps and transfer/temporary tanks which can be used to empty a leaking tank or facilitate a tank replacement.

Please call 01262 605500 if you would like to discuss your requirements or find out more about this.

  • Can I open a trade account?

You can certainly apply for one.

Please complete our Commercial Account Application Form (which can be downloaded here) and return it to us for processing.

Please note that even if we are able to accept your application you may have to prepay or pay on delivery for your first order.

  • How do you calculate delivery lead times?

Our delivery lead times are based on working days (Monday to Friday), the first day of which is the working day after the order was placed. This means if you place an order for 6 Day Delivery at noon on Monday it will be delivered on or before the following Tuesday (assuming there are no bank holidays in between).

Orders placed on a weekend, a bank holiday or after 4pm on a working day are classed as being placed on the next working day. So, if you were to place an order at 17:00 on Monday on 6 Day Delivery, it would be delivered on or before the Wednesday of the following week (again, assuming there are no bank holidays in between).

Each bank holiday adds a further day to the lead time.

  • Can you amend/delete my personal data?

    Yes, of course.

Please email us at enquiries@hbfuels.co.uk with a description of what you'd like deleting or removing and we'll arrange to do so.

Likewise, if you wish to amend anything or obtain the personal data we hold about you, please contact us at the same email address.

  • What personal data do you hold about me?

Our policy on privacy/personal data can be found here.

If you would like to know what personal data, we hold about you please email your request to enquiries@hbfuels.co.uk.

If you have any complaints or concerns about the way we collect or use personal data, please email us at enquiries@hbfuels.co.uk. You also have the right to raise your complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

  • Are you a member of UKIFDA (formerly FPS)?

    Yes, we are.

    Our membership number is M010717.

  • Do you have a cold weather priority scheme for vulnerable people?

Cold weather can be dangerous for vulnerable people.

We will always try to help if someone is in urgent need of oil or a heating repair.

If you are potentially vulnerable, or if you know a neighbour who might be, please just let us know. We know it can be uncomfortable to admit you need a little help but please don't be too embarrassed to define yourself as vulnerable - sometimes the people who need help the most are the ones who feel they need or warrant it the least. Just talk to us, or ask someone to talk to us on your behalf if it's difficult, and we'll try to help.

We'd rather have the opportunity to help than the knowledge that you have suffered in cold silence.

  • Did Gas Oil rules change recently?

Changes to use of red diesel from 1 April 2022

Significant changes to the rules around rebated Gas Oil/Red Diesel usage are coming into effect on 1 April 2022.

In the 2020 budget, the Government announced that they would be removing the Gas Oil rebate in order to encourage the switch to more sustainable fuels. This means, from 1 April 2022, IT WILL BE ILLEGAL TO PUT REBATED FUEL INTO THE TANK OF A VEHICLE, VESSEL, MACHINE, OR APPLIANCE that is not able to use it.

ONLY CUSTOMERS IN THE FOLLOWING SECTORS will be allowed to continue to use Gas Oil:

    • Agriculture, Horticulture, Fish Farming, and Forestry
    • Rail Transport
    • Power Generation/Heating in non-commercial premises (eg: schools, hospitals, prisons, town halls, places of worship and domestic homes requiring off-grid power)
    • Golf courses and Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC registered with HMRC)
    • Sailing, boating, marine transport
    • Travelling fairs and circuses

This means any customers currently using Gas Oil outside these qualifying sectors, e.g. in the sectors of:

    • Construction
    • Plant hire
    • Manufacturing
    • Leisure industry
    • Commercial
    • Haulage
    • Road Maintenance

will not be permitted to use red diesel from April 1st and should plan to use up any fuel held in storage tanks and switch to an alternative fuel by this date. If you order supplies of Gas Oil between now and then, try to order only the amount you expect to use, and keep records of your deliveries. We will be checking all gas order orders for use and volume.

You should plan to switch to an alternative fuel type for deliveries near to or from 1st April 2022. Alternatives include ULSD/white diesel or biofuels which have had full duty paid.

Please follow the advice to customers from UKIFDA, our Industry Body:

If you are no longer allowed to use rebated fuel:

    • Talk to your local distributor about your plans.
    • Plan to run down the fuel in your vehicles or machine to close to nil before 1 April 2022.
    • If you sell or dispose of your rebated fuel keep a record of how and when the fuel was disposed of, or who it was sold to and when.
    • Keep a record of your purchases of red diesel in the months ahead of the April 2022 deadline.
    • Do not stockpile or increase your orders ahead of the deadline as your local distributor is likely to refuse. You will not be expected to flush out all traces of rebated diesel from the fuel tank of a vehicle or machine.

For detailed information about the changes please visit https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/reform-of-red-diesel-entitlements/reform-of-red-diesel-and-other-rebated-fuels-entitlement
